Whether for an individual, business, missionary work, NGO, USAID, UNICEF, or governmental entity, the
information below is meant to assist in your water well drilling rig, borehole drilling rig equipment, and water
drill rig research.

The high points to consider when purchasing a water well drilling rig are:

  1. You should know or ascertain the maximum drilling depth, maximum borehole diameter, and what type material (sand,
granite, clay, etc.) you must drill through.
  2. After gathering the information in "1" above determine which drilling rig model matches your drilling specifications.   Be
careful of what you read on the Internet because some websites provide maximum theoretical drilling depths and
maximum borehole sizes that could realistically only be reached on a perfect day with all the planets in alignment.   You
will need to use some common-sense to determine if the stated drilling capabilities are reasonable under every day
    drilling conditions.
  3. A well equipped water well borehole rockbuster drilling rig will have the ability to operate with drilling mud and/or air
using an assortment of drill bits or a down hole hammer, have the ability to immediately  apply at least 2500 pounds of
downward pressure on downhole hammer bits and even more downward pressure for tricone roller bits, incorporate a
high pressure water injector with foam injection, and employ a down hole hammer oil injector.   Hydraulic controls
should allow very fine feathering of drill bit rotation speed, power-head travel speed, and allow for hands free drilling.
  4. When diesel engines are used look for international brand names from Japan, USA, or Europe such as Kubota, John
    Deere, Deutz, etc.
  5. The water drilling rig must include, or have as an installation option, the ability to set 20 foot (6 meter) lengths of well
casing using a hydraulic powered, electric powered, or even a hand operated winch line.  It you drill the well but do not
case it immediately you take the chance in the hole caving in.
  6. Future service and parts.  This component of your rig purchase is important because one day when a part fails either you
will be provided with rapid service and shipment of the replacement part or you rig will be worthless because without
replacement parts the rig will not be operational.
  7. In the end the decision to purchase a water well borehole drilling rig is yours and not being sweet talked by your new
"best friend" salesperson into hastily purchasing a water borehole drilling rig that does not meet your needs could be
one of the best things for you.
  8. When you understand the meaning of 2 through 7 above you are most likely ready to purchase your water drilling rig
from us or another manufacturer.  If you do not understand any one of the above then it may be best to spend a bit more
    time learning.

We have received thousands of phone calls and e-mails concerning water well drilling rigs destined to Africa (especially from
Nigeria, Kenya, and Ghana).   The vast majority of inquires are for water borehole drilling rigs that may encounter hard rock,
borehole drilling depths from 20 meters to 200 meters plus, and varying water borehole diameter sizes.  The one common
thread among all inquires is price.  There is a saying 'you get what you pay for' and the uninformed may end up purchasing
the least expensive water borehole drilling rig they find on the Internet then later find out after spending a lot of money for the
rig and for shipping costs they do not work for very long or at all in hard rock and they will not drill deep.   The most common
explanation we hear is "I will start with an inexpensive water borehole drilling rig then move up to a big water drilling rig with
the money I make."   In the end that line of reasoning typically means more broken dreams then successful wells completed.

At the
Africa Maps link you will find geologic maps for every country in Africa.  Choose the country the water borehole
equipment is destined for and then determine by the maps legend what the formation(s) are that you must drill through.  If
granite is indicated in the area you wish to drill in you will need to use a DTH (down hole hammer) which requires a very large
air compressor, a pneumatic oiler and/or high pressure water/foam injector for the hammer, and very good quality drill steel.

Some of the maps at the link below are very large..... You are encouraged to take the time to locate your area of concern and
then you will be able to determine the appropriate water drilling rig that can do the job.  If you cannot determine the material to
be drilled through contact an experienced geologist or well driller in the location of interest.
